Raj Malik is a young Paki immigrant who tries to come to America with his family, but the immigration system doesn't go as he expects. He meets with an accident on the way, gets put in the hospital, and goes through several tests. While taking care of his mother in hospital, Raj meets Miriam Khurana, a nurse from India. Miriam is attracted to Raj's faithfulness and hard work. She starts falling in love with him. Raj feels that he has already failed his application by being hospitalized for so long before being accepted for permanent residence status. However, when he finally gets his green card, his mother passes away. The night before her death, she tells Raj to come back to India for their wedding. At the end of the film it is shown that Raj has returned to India and has met the girl of his dreams.The movie is about a young man born in Pakistan. He dreams of being an American so he can get a good job and start a family with the woman he loves. However, when he makes it to America he has problems keeping up with all the rules and paperwork that are necessary to stay there legally. He meets a beautiful woman and falls in love with her, but the immigration process is not going fast enough for him and his parents. One night he slips away from his family and goes to meet this woman. They spend one night together and the next morning, the girl's brother comes to America looking for him.
